At the Nexus of Transportation Electrification and Power Grid Transformation

IoTecha is excited and honored to join global leaders in the EV Charging industry at the CharIN e.V. booth at the Electric Vehicle Symposium & Exhibition (EVS30) in Stuttgart on October 9-11, 2017. This impressive 230m2 booth will be one of the centerpieces of EVS30. The CharIN exhibit, at one of the largest industrial gatherings for the electromobility industry, reflects the stunning growth demonstrated by the Combined Charging System (“CCS”) ecosystem over the last 12 months.

Intelligent and Connected Charging based on CCS and ISO/IEC 15118 standards is the key to providing seamless integration of millions of EVs with the power grid and enabling ease of use for consumers. The work on CCS and ISO/IEC 15118 started in 2007 and today, almost all the automakers have embraced this approach (http://charinev.org/members/our-members/). The broad and rapid adoption of CCS was evident at the 6th International CCS & ISO/IEC 15118 Testing Symposium last June, which attracted more than 200 participants from 85 companies worldwide. It was the biggest event so far in the series of Testing Symposia since its start in 2014.

The advantages of CCS and ISO/IEC 15118 are clear. Among the most important is simplicity for consumers, through automatic “plug and charge” authentication at charging points and seamless billing with no credit cards required. Grid Friendliness — including active load management, time-controlled charging, tariff-controlled charging, and integration of renewable energy sources — is another critical advantage.

While IoTecha is less than two years old, IoTecha’s team members have been involved with EV charging from the very beginning of ISO/IEC 15118 development. We launched IoTecha with the goal of making smart charging based on CCS easy and inexpensive for any charger manufacturer.

Our suite of standards compliant products includes an ISO/IEC 15118 and HomePlug GreenPHY protocol analyzer tool, a highly integrated CCS on Module (CCSoM) charger controller with pre-integrated OCPP 1.6J and ISO/IEC 15118 (based on ST’s ST2100 SoC), and the Cloud-based IoTecha Intelligent Power Platform (I2P2) enabling full life cycle management for chargers based on our CCSoM. All of these products, which are designed to reduce development costs and accelerate time to market for EV charging station manufacturers, will be on display at our booth.

The CharIN joint booth will boast a global ecosystem comprised of semiconductor vendors, component distributors, electronic sub-system developers, communication products and connector manufacturers, test equipment and services providers, charging station manufacturers, and motorcycle/car manufacturers. The exciting array of demonstrations in the booth will include a CCS charged motorbike and a BMW i8 Protonic Frozen Black Edition. And don’t miss the booth party on October 9th for all CharIN e.
